“Mom, I joined a band!”

This was the call my mother received about 6 weeks ago. At this point, I don’t think any of my phone calls surprise her anymore.

I spent the next hour telling her how God brought this dream alive in me through these amazing guys in the church. I had no idea, at the time, how much of a dream-come-true they really were and how much I would end up loving them by the time I left.

Our very first night we came to Vigía, music filled the air as we all danced around the room. Before I knew it I was on stage singing in Spanish with Deglyss and Aarón. Thus the band was born, and I knew I was going to love every minute here.

From then on every time someone pulled out a guitar, a worship night ensued. It didn’t matter who started it, we were instantly all drawn in to be a part of it.

In the first week, the boys told me they had been wanting to bring their band together and asked me to stay and join it. At the time, I remember thinking, oh that would be so fun. I had no idea how much this would actually become my heart’s desire.

Music brings a different kind of connection between people, and I think this is even more true for worship.

Over the next few weeks, we watched them reconcile their lives back to Jesus, start serving the church, and form this band that brings heaven to earth in such a beautiful way. We watched them draw people in every time they picked up their instruments, opened their mouths to sing, and invited people into this space to meet the Lord. You could guarantee that no one would play alone because whenever the music started, people flocked.

This band that started with 3 Ticos and 1 hopeful Americana,

grew into 4 Ticos and 4 Americans.

We started playing for fun in the church and by the end, we were already traveling to other cities to lead worship together.

There was something extremely special that formed over the 6 weeks we were there that is impossible to fully put into words. You just have to experience it.

For me personally, God has put the call of worship on my heart and has been growing it in me internationally for years. I have had a dream deep in my heart I was too afraid to even ask for. A dream to find people who loved worship the way I do, who could play any song at the drop of a hat, and who were willing to spend hours upon hours learning songs, writing music, and sitting in the presence of the Lord.

That is exactly what God gave me in these beautiful people, and I developed a deep love for all of them. It is a love that I can’t fully express with words, but a love that made them instantly my family. I am forever grateful and so excited to see what God is going to do with us next.

To my Ticos:

I could write a book about my love for you all, maybe someday I will. I can’t thank you enough for letting me be a part of your band, for accepting me as your family, and for always jumping in to play at any given moment. You all made my heart come alive.

Esteban, watching you come out of your shell was one of my favorite parts of this trip. You bring so much light and energy into every room and are always full of surprises. From speaking English, to actually being 19 (not 15), to impressing us all with your dance moves at my birthday party, you never cease to amaze me and make me laugh. You carry such a gift of joy. You are an extremely talented guitar player, and your warm heart makes you so easy to love. God has really big plans for you, and I am excited to watch Him fulfill them.

Aarón, your surrender and fire for the Lord is unmatched. I love watching you choose God every day and I love how much He has captured your heart. Your voice connects us to His love immediately. It carries so much power when you sing, when you share a word, and when you speak encouragement into each one of us. Your heart for people to know the Love of God has brought and will continue to bring healing to so many. I love watching you step into your giftings, whether it is drumming, singing, bass or guitar. God will use your many talents and above all, your servant’s heart to bring His people together.

Deglyss, you carry an anointing of worship on your life that brings heaven to earth every time you show up to sing and play. It doesn’t matter which you choose of the many instruments you can play, when you show up you bring the presence of God to those around you. I am blown away by the ease with which you play. It just flows out of you, and moves people to the Father’s heart. I love watching you discover who the Lord says you are. It is my most favorite thing to sing with you when you let go and just let the Holy Spirit move. You have quite a path ahead of you and I can’t wait to see how the Lord continues to call you into leadership.

You all have such beautiful God-given gifts and I am so honored to be a part of your lives and a part of the band for however long God allows. You all have stolen my heart and I will continue praying for you from afar until the Lord allows us to be together again.

Los amo mucho, siempre y por siempre.

Love,

Jordan
